2-(3-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-yl)acetic acid is a benzamide fungicide that belongs to the group of picolinic acid. It is used at low concentrations in the field to control plant diseases caused by fungi, such as powdery mildew and rusts. 2-(3-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-yl)acetic acid binds to the fungal cell membrane and disrupts its function, leading to cell death. The fungicide is metabolized by a number of metabolic pathways, including oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes or conjugation with glucuronic acid. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of foodborne pathogens such as Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium and Listeria monocytogenes
