Product Information
Targocil is a molecule that inhibits the synthesis of the acyl chain of penicillin-binding proteins, which are essential for bacterial cell wall biosynthesis. Targocil binds to Penicillin-Binding Proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Targocil has been shown to inhibit beta-lactamase production and methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus strains. Targocil also has been shown to inhibit cellular growth by preventing the synthesis of proteins necessary for DNA replication and repair and protein homeostasis.
