The synthesis of 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7-Octamethyltetrasiloxane starts with the reaction of tetraethoxy silane with octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane to produce (CH)SiO and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane. This reaction produces two moles of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane for every mole of tetraethoxy silane that reacts.
