Description

Pyridin-4-amine hydrochloride (P4NH) is an experimental drug that is a prodrug of pyridin-4-amine. It is being studied for its potential application to the treatment of muscle disorders, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy and heart disease. P4NH has shown in vitro activity against the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down neurotransmitter acetylcholine and causes muscle weakness. In animal models, P4NH has been shown to increase ATP levels, which are important for muscle function. This may be due to P4NH's ability to inhibit phosphodiesterase and increase intracellular nucleotide levels.
