Benzene, 1,1'-(1-methyl-1,3-propanediyl)bis- is a homologous series of compounds that has the constant structural unit of benzene. Benzene is produced by the dehydration of isopropylbenzene and reacts with styrene to form benzene. This compound is used as an additive in the production of polystyrene and PVC plastics. Benzene also interacts with chlorine to form chlorobenzene. The most common uses for this compound are in solvents and antiseptics.
