3-Iodobenzoyl chloride is a reactive compound that can be used to modify cellulose derivatives. It is a strong and selective epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor antagonist, which has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of human epidermal keratinocytes in culture. 3-Iodobenzoyl chloride is also an amide with a stearoyl group near its terminal end. The amide group is capable of transferring electrons from one molecule to another, while the stearoyl group may act as a plasma membrane anchor for this compound. The molecular modelling of 3-iodobenzoyl chloride shows that it has three functional groups including a carboxylic acid, an amine, and an ether. 3-Iodobenzoyl chloride inhibits EGF receptor tyrosine kinase activity by competing with ATP for binding on the receptor's catalytic site.
