Product Information
The 5-methoxybenzofuran-2-ylboronic acid (5'MBF) is a labeled ligand that binds to the β-amyloid protein in the brain. The binding of this compound to β-amyloid disrupts the formation of amyloid fibrils, which are associated with Alzheimer's disease. In autoradiographic studies, 5'MBF was found to bind specifically to regions of the human brain where amyloid plaques accumulate. Autopsied brains from tg2576 mice that were injected with 5'MBF revealed that the compound had been taken up by neurons and localized in the cytoplasm in high concentrations. These findings suggest that 5'MBF binds to β-amyloid and prevents its aggregation into fibrils.
