AM-1220 is a synthetic cannabinoid that binds to the CB2 receptor and has been shown to be a potent analgesic. AM-1220 is also an agonist of the oxytocin receptor, which is found in the human liver and other tissues. AM-1220 has been shown to have inhibitory effects on fatty acid amide hydrolase, which may contribute to its analgesic activity. This drug also has chemical diversity, as it can exist as either a racemic mixture or as individual enantiomers. AM-1220 was originally synthesized with the intention of developing a non-psychoactive drug for use in treatment of autoimmune diseases. The drug was first identified by its binding constants for receptors found in urine samples from one individual who had taken it for recreational purposes. It has been shown that this drug binds well to the CB2 receptor, but not so well to the CB1 receptor, indicating that it may have therapeutic potential in treating chronic pain and other disorders
