3-Benzoyl-1H-pyrimidine-2,4-dione is a nucleobase analogue that can be used as an acceptor in phosphonate hybridization assays. It has been shown to be a substrate for the benzyl group and undergoes arylations with various electrophiles such as thiophenol and acetyl chloride. 3-Benzoyl-1H-pyrimidine-2,4-dione can also undergo conjugations with various carboxylic acids such as benzoic acid or 4-(dimethylamino)benzoic acid. This compound has been synthesized by reacting cyclobutanone with 3,5-dibromopyridine in the presence of potassium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate to produce 3-(benzoyl)-1H-pyrimidine-2,4(3H)-dione.
