- Pyridine, 2,3,4,5-tetrachloro-
The 2,3,4,5-tetrachloropyridine (2,3,4,5-TCP) is a byproduct of the production of tetrachloropyridine. It is used as an analytical method to measure the concentration of hydrogen ions in wastewater. In this procedure, 2,3,4,5-TCP reacts with sodium carbonate and hydrogen chloride in water to form water vapor and chlorinating reaction products. The chlorine atom reacts with hydroxyl ions to produce oxygen nucleophiles that react with copper chloride to form solid catalyst. Hydrogen fluoride then reacts with chlorine atoms to produce hydrogen chloride and hydrochloric acid.
