5-(Pyridin-4-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-one is a sulfonamide that is used as an antibiotic. It is classified as a long-acting sulfonamide and has bacteriostatic properties. 5-(Pyridin-4-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-one inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It also has murine lepromatous leprosy efficacy and can be used for the treatment of lepromatous leprosy in humans. This drug has been shown to have no activity against mycobacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
