Description:

1,3-Diethyl 2-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}propanedioate is a tripeptide that is used in the synthesis of histidine and pyrimidine derivatives. It can be synthesized by the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of nitro compounds with an alkylating agent such as ethyl diazoacetate. This compound is used as a pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of bacterial infections. It has been shown to be effective against strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but not against methicillin-resistant strains. 1,3-Diethyl 2-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}propanedioate is soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane or chloroform, making it well suited for use as a diluent in biochemical reactions.
