Description:

(Cyanomethyl)triphenylphosphonium chloride is a nitrogenous compound that has been shown to have in vitro cytotoxic activity. It also has antiviral properties and can be used in the treatment of bronchial infections. This drug inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase and preventing it from forming an aminoacyl-tRNA complex with the ribosome, which leads to cell death. (Cyanomethyl)triphenylphosphonium chloride has been synthesised using acrylonitrile and phosphoranes.
