5-Bromo-3-indolyl b-D-glucuronide cyclohexylammonium salt is a chromogenic substrate for alkaline phosphatase. The enzyme converts the substrate to a blue product, which can be detected by absorbance measurements at 620 nm. This product is used in diagnostics and research as a substrate for enzymes that catalyze the conversion of indole glucuronyl residues to corresponding indolyl glucuronides. 5-Bromo-3-indolyl b-D-glucuronide cyclohexylammonium salt is also used as a chemiluminescent substrate for horseradish peroxidase and luciferase, which react with hydrogen peroxide to produce light.
