Product Information
4-Methylumbelliferyl α-D-xylopyranoside is a chromogenic substrate that is used to detect the presence of alkaline phosphatase in tissue or cell culture. 4-Methylumbelliferyl α-D-xylopyranoside reacts with the enzyme alkaline phosphatase, which converts it to methylumbelliferone and 4-methylumbelliferyl phosphate. This reaction can be detected by chemiluminescence or bioluminescence. 4-Methylumbelliferyl α-D-xylopyranoside is a conjugate for many different ligands, including fluorescein, rhodamine B, and umbelliferone. It is also used as a fluorogenic substrate for assays measuring bacterial activity in water samples. 4-Methylumbelliferyl α-D-xylopyranoside has been shown to be nonfluorescent
