Ac-muramyl-Ala-D-Glu(Lys(stearoyl)-OH)-NH2 is a synthetic peptide that was designed to mimic the sequence of muramyl dipeptide (MDP), which is found in bacterial cell walls. Ac-muramyl-Ala-D-Glu(Lys(stearoyl)-OH)-NH2 binds to the protein albumin, which is an important component of human blood plasma and has been shown to be elevated in patients with autoimmune diseases. This peptide also inhibits the activity of metal hydroxides, such as aluminum hydroxide and calcium hydroxide, by binding to their surface, reducing their antimicrobial activity.
