Z-Asp-Glu-Val-Asp)2-Rhodamine 110 is a hematopoietic agent that is used to study the mechanism of apoptosis in cell culture. Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is the process by which a cell commits suicide. Z-Asp-Glu-Val-Asp)2-Rhodamine 110 inhibits polymerization of proteins by binding to cytochalasin B and prevents cells from undergoing apoptosis. The drug also binds to tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) and caspases and blocks their activity, inhibiting the release of cellular contents into the extracellular environment. This results in decreased inflammation, necrosis, and cell death.
