Z-Asp-2,6-dichlorobenzoyloxymethylketone is a synthetic compound that induces apoptosis in neuronal cells. It has been shown to cause cell lysis and the release of granule neurons. It also induces caspase-independent cell death in HL60 cells through mitochondrial membrane potential changes. Z-Asp-2,6-dichlorobenzoyloxymethylketone causes apoptotic cell death by binding to basic proteins. It also inhibits epidermal growth factor and Ca2+ overload, which are both important for cellular proliferation.
