2-Amino-7-hydroxy-1,8-naphthridine (2AN) is a pyrimidine nucleoside that can be synthesized by a two step cross-coupling reaction coupling the amino group of glycine with the carboxylic acid. 2AN is an analytical reagent that has been used to detect acids in cell culture and as a pH indicator in microbiological media. The compound has also been used as a substrate for oligodeoxynucleotide synthesis. 2AN was found to have low detection limits for picric acid and pyridine bases, making it useful for detecting picric and other nitro compounds. 2AN is also thermally unstable and undergoes thermal denaturation at temperatures above 140°C.
