Description

DL-allo-Isoleucine is an amino acid that is used in the treatment of bowel disease. It has a hypoglycemic effect and can be used in the control of blood sugar levels. Isoleucine is also used as a building block to synthesize proteins, enzymes, and hormones. In vitro assays have shown that DL-allo-Isoleucine effectively inhibits growth of resistant mutants of Escherichia coli, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. The amino acid has been found to reduce body weight gain in mice by decreasing the synthesis of proteins involved in fat storage. DL-allo-Isoleucine may also help form cells and tissues during development by regulating gene expression and protein synthesis.
