Product Information
- Z-Ala-Trp-OH
- N-[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]alanyltryptophan
Z-L-alanyl-L-tryptophan is a racemic mixture of two diastereomers. The Z isomer is the only stereoisomer that has been identified in nature and its biological activity has been shown to be due to the presence of an indole amino acid residue. The L isomer has not shown any biological activity, but it can be used for the synthesis of peptides. Carbodiimide coupling reactions are often used to synthesize peptides from these two diastereomers. Fluorescence measurements are often used as a convenient way to monitor the coupling reaction because they are non-destructive, sensitive, and rapid.
Z-L-alanyl-L-tryptophan can also be used as a reagent for monitoring phase HPLC by UV detection or fluorescence measurements.
