Ac-Lys-D-Ala-D-Ala-OH is a glycopeptide antibiotic that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Ac-Lys-D-Ala-D-Ala-OH binds to the cell wall of bacteria by binding to the peptidoglycan layer in the cell wall. This binding inhibits bacterial growth by preventing peptidoglycan synthesis. Acetylation of this compound has also been shown to increase its solubility and stability, as well as its resistance to degradation by enzymes.
