[(2S,5R)-5-(2-Amino-6-Fluoropurin-9-Yl)Oxolan-2-Yl]Methanol is a potent anti-HIV agent that inhibits the replication of HIV by binding to the viral nucleic acid. It has been shown to be effective against many strains of HIV and has a high affinity for human T cells and macrophages. [(2S,5R)-5-(2-Amino-6-Fluoropurin-9-Yl)Oxolan-2-Yl]Methanol has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of adenosine, which is needed for purine synthesis, and is an effective inhibitor of virus growth in vitro.
