Boc-Cys(Acm)-OSu is a human epidermal growth factor that regulates the proliferation and differentiation of cells in the epidermis. It is an active form of bovine cys-acm, which has been modified with an N-terminal acetyl group and a C-terminal Osu (O-succinimidyl) group. Boc-Cys(Acm)-OSu activates phosphorylation of receptor molecules on the cell membrane, which leads to activation of tyrosine kinase activity. The activated tyrosine kinase is then phosphorylated by other molecules, leading to increased epidermal growth factor production. The sequence of amino acids in this molecule is identical to that found in human epidermal growth factor.
