N-Boc-4-amino-L-homoalanine is an L-amino acid that is used in pharmacological studies as a substrate for the mammalian glutamine transporter. It is also used as a molecular probe to study the transport of amino acids by the human acid transporter. This chemical has been shown to have antitumor effects and inhibit the growth of malignant cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit uptake and transport of l-glutamine. N-Boc-4-amino-L-homoalanine has been shown to inhibit the uptake and transport of l-glutamine in mammalian cells, although it does not affect cellular glucose uptake or cellular phosphate uptake.
