Description

N-1,3-Benzoxazol-2-ylguanidine is a hydrogen bond donor that is used in supramolecular chemistry. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, specifically leukemia and lymphoma cells, by inhibiting the activity of enzymes involved in DNA synthesis. The hydrogen bonds formed with the N-1 and N-3 methylene groups on guanidine and the H-N hydrogen atom are most likely responsible for this inhibitory effect. N-1,3-Benzoxazol-2-ylguanidine may also be a good candidate for developing a new class of drugs that block HIV infection because it has been shown to inhibit reverse transcriptase activity.
