5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole is an ether that inhibits the farnesyltransferase enzyme and is used in cancer therapy. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cancer cells by inducing apoptosis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. 5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole also inhibits the activity of other enzymes such as dimethyl dioxan disulphide and alkylation inhibitors.
