The reaction solution can be obtained by reacting phenol with bromine, which yields 1-bromo-4-phenoxybenzene and 2,6-dibromoethanol. This chemical has potent inhibitory activity against hydroxide solution, which is a common method for removing metals from water. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy has been used to demonstrate that this chemical binds to the receptor site of amp-activated protein kinase (AMPK).
