Description

Bavachalcone is a fructan found in the Chinese herb Psoralea corylifolia. It has been shown to have effects on body formation, as well as an ability to increase the redox potential of cells. Bavachalcone has been shown to induce autophagy in fetal bovine and k562 cells. This compound also inhibits drug interactions with other drugs that are metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes. The molecular mechanism of action is thought to be through transfer reactions or binding to cellular proteins. Bavachalcone has been shown to have a matrix effect on mitochondrial membrane potential, which may be due to its ability to reduce reactive oxygen species production.
