(S)-(+)-N-Benzylserine is a synthetic amino acid that has been shown to be an effective activator of platelets. It has a similar structure to l-phenylalanine and is metabolized by the liver into the (R)-enantiomer. The pharmacokinetic study of (S)-(+)-N-Benzylserine was completed in rats, with a half-life of 2 hours. This drug also has antithrombotic properties, as it inhibits collagen binding to platelets and activation. Studies have shown that it is an effective inhibitor of platelet aggregation and adhesion, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of thromboxane A2 from arachidonic acid.
