Boceprevir metabolite M4 is an enzyme inhibitor that binds to bacterial enzymes and prevents the synthesis of proteins. It inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with the production of proteins essential for cell division. This drug has been shown to be effective against antimicrobial resistant bacteria, such as those resistant to carbapenem antibiotics. Boceprevir metabolite M4 has also been shown to have a cytotoxic effect on tissue cultures and may act as a particle in the cb2 receptor.
