Description:
(E)-4-Bromo-1-chloro-2-methyl-2-butene is a cyclic compound that can be produced by the allylation of benzene with chloromethyl methyl ether in the presence of a catalytic amount of potassium carbonate. The reaction requires three steps and takes place in hexanes or other solvents. This reagent can also be used to prepare mesylates. Chlorides may be used as a catalyst, but they are toxic and should not come into contact with skin.
