Description

N-Benzylmethylamine is an organic amine that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in rats. The inhibition of cell proliferation was due to the binding of N-benzylmethylamine to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and the activation of the AHR-dependent signaling pathway. This binding led to a decrease in the expression of genes involved in cell cycle progression, such as cyclin D1 and cdk4. N-Benzylmethylamine also caused DNA damage and inhibited tumor growth by inducing apoptosis. It was found that this compound can be detected in urine samples using HPLC with UV detection at 290 nm.
