Description

Bufotalin is a natural product that has been isolated from the skin of toads and has potent antitumor activity. It binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Bufotalin has also been shown to inhibit xenograft tumor growth in mice, with significant cytotoxicity against carcinoma cell lines as well as human leukemia HL-60 cells. Bufotalin also has inhibitory properties against human cyp3a4, which is an enzyme involved in drug metabolism.
