3-(Chloromethyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole is a photolabile amide that binds to cannabinoid-1 receptors in the brain. It has been shown to be an orally active and orthogonal modulator of these receptors. 3-(Chloromethyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole is also a linker for the synthesis of new chemical compounds. It is based on arylpiperazine and has affinity for melanocortin receptors. The pharmacokinetics of 3-(chloromethyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole have been studied in rats and dogs.
