Description

Citronellal is a naturally occurring organic compound that has been synthesized in an asymmetric synthesis reaction. It has a ph optimum of 7. Citronellal reacts with caffeine to form the product citronellyl caffeate, which has synergistic effects on the inhibition of bacterial growth. Citronellal is also used as a preservative in cosmetics and perfumes due to its high resistance to microbial degradation. Citronellal can be found in chinese medicinal herbs such as lemongrass oil and other essential oils. Citronellal can be found in many plants, including rosemary, lemon, peppermint, and lavender.
