C6 dihydroceramide is a fatty acid that has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the inflammatory response. It was found to be effective in rat cardiomyocytes, and also showed no toxicity in humans. C6 dihydroceramide has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β by inhibiting the activation of NFκB. This analog has been shown to improve mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP production, as well as stimulate phosphatases, which may decrease inflammation. The optimal pH for this analog is acidic at around 6.5-7.5.
