Description

Cyclo(-D-Ala-D-Ala) is a hydrogen bonded, chiral compound that is cyclic. It has two stereoisomers, one of which is the mirror image of the other. The natural form of Cyclo(-D-Ala-D-Ala) is the L-enantiomer. The D-enantiomer can be synthesized by ring opening and oriented polymerization of (-)alanine. Cyclo(-D-Ala-D-Ala) has been shown to have peptidase inhibiting properties and copolymerizes with L-(+)-alanine in an asymmetric manner. This makes it a promising candidate for the development of new biomaterials and drugs.
