Description

Cyclo(-Gly-L-His) is a cyclopeptide antibiotic. It is the most potent cyclic peptide antibiotic in terms of metal ion binding affinity, with the ability to bind to divalent metal ions such as Mg2+, Ca2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Mn2+. Cyclo(-Gly-L-His) binds to these ions by undergoing a chelate complex formation. The thermodynamic parameters for this interaction are constants that depend on the type of metal ion. The complex formation between cyclo(-Gly-L-His) and divalent metal ions has been shown to be important in determining the inhibition of enzymes such as DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
