Product Information

Name:
beta-Cyclohexyl-D-alanine
Synonyms:
  • D-Cha-OH3-Cyclohexyl-D-alanine(R)-2-Amino-3-cyclohexyl-propionic acid
  • 3-cyclohexyl-D-alanine
  • D-Cyclohexylalanine
  • (R)-3-Cyclohexylalanine
  • H-D-Cha-OH
Description:

Beta-cyclohexyl-D-alanine is a cyclic amino acid, which is an endogenous inhibitor of phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT). PEMT catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl methionine to phosphatidylethanolamine, which is important for maintaining cellular membrane integrity. Beta-cyclohexyl-D-alanine inhibits this enzyme and can be used as a thrombin inhibitor in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Beta cyclohexyl D alanine has been shown to inhibit the growth of staphylococci bacteria, but does not have any effect on gram negative bacteria. This may be due to its inability to cross the bacterial cell membrane.
