2,5-Dimethyl-3-furoic acid (2,5DMA) is a solvent that is used in organic synthesis and has been shown to inhibit the activity of IDO1, which is an enzyme involved in the production of immunosuppressive substances. 2,5DMA has also been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human adenocarcinoma cells and has been found to be more potent than cisplatin against k562 cells. 2,5DMA binds to the carboxylate groups of proteins and inhibits their function by forming a complex with hydroxide ions or chloride ions. This complex can cause structural changes in proteins. 2,5DMA may be useful for cancer treatment due to its ability to inhibit cellular growth and induce apoptosis.
