2,2-Dimethylcyclopropyl)methanol is a chemical that is used in the synthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP). It is also an intermediate in the conversion of methanol to formaldehyde. 2,2-Dimethylcyclopropyl)methanol can be synthesized by dehydrogenation of methyl cyclopropane carboxylate. This chemical can be used as a probe for horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase. 2,2-Dimethylcyclopropyl)methanol has been shown to have activity against lactate dehydrogenase, which plays an important role in the production of energy from glucose in the cell.
