N-Decyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate is a fatty acid that is soluble in water. It has been used to study the mechanism of action of farnesyl diphosphate synthase and to develop a model system for studying intracellular protein synthesis. N-Decyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate has also been shown to be effective as an anti-fungal agent against Candida albicans. This molecule can serve as a sealant when it is mixed with other compounds such as polyvinyl alcohols and polyacrylic acids.
