17a-Dihydroequilin is a natural metabolite of estrone sulfate with biological properties. It is derived from the conversion of estrone sulfate by microsomal enzymes in the liver. 17a-Dihydroequilin has been shown to have receptor binding and growth factor activities, as well as anti-inflammatory properties in animal studies. This compound has been found in urine samples from women, and may be an indicator of premarin use.
