Description

2',6'-Dihydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxychalcone is a polyphenolic compound that has been shown to have immunomodulatory effects in mice. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of the fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans by preventing the formation of radical oxygen species and scavenging them. In addition, 2',6'-dihydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxychalcone, when combined with flavokawin E or pinostrobin chalcone, is able to kill C. neoformans cells. The structural studies on this compound led to the discovery that 2',6'-dihydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxychalcone is a new natural product that belongs to the genus of flavokawin E and pinostrobin chalcone.
