2-Deoxy-20-hydroxyecdysone is a plant hormone that belongs to the class of ecdysteroid compounds. It is found in all plants, and it regulates growth, development, and reproduction. 2-Deoxy-20-hydroxyecdysone has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which are gram positive bacteria. This compound has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of Candida albicans. 2-Deoxy-20-hydroxyecdysone can be extracted from plant tissue culture cells by acetate extraction or other methods, but it is not present in untreated control cells.
