5,6-Diethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-amine hydrochloride is the salt form of a chemical compound that belongs to the group of acetylation agents. This chemical is highly soluble in water and is used as a reagent to acetylate amines. The industrial process for this compound begins with an acetone solution of 2,3-dihydroindene. Acetyl chloride reacts with 2,3-dithiobenzoyl chloride in an acid environment to produce 5,6-diethyl-2,3-dihydroindane. The product is treated with hydrogen chloride gas to produce 5,6-diethyl-2,3 dihydroindanamine hydrochloride. This compound has been shown to be toxic for aquatic life and can cause environmental pollution when released into the environment.
