2,2-Difluorobutane-1,4-diamine (DFBA) is an amino acid that has been detected in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid of humans and animals. It is a natural substance that is formed by the oxidation of polyamines or by the hydrolysis of 2-aminoisobutyric acid. DFBA has also been found to be present in high concentrations in brain tumor cells. This suggests that it may have a role in cellular transport pathways and can activate mammalian cells. The detection sensitivity of DFBA is low due to its hydrophobic nature, but it can be enhanced with difluoro groups.
