Description

19,19-Difluoroandrost-4-ene-3,6,17-trione is a steroid that inhibits aromatase activity. It has been shown to inhibit the production of estrogen in human placental cells. The inhibition constant for this compound is 0.69 μM. Rate constants for the inhibition of aromatase activity in human placental cells are 0.0014/min and 0.0011/min at concentrations of 0.1 and 1 μM respectively. This compound is biphasic with an inactivation half-life of 8 min at a concentration of 10 μM and a time dependent inhibition constant of 11 min at a concentration of 10 μM. 19,19-Difluoroandrost-4-ene-3,6,17-trione is a competitive inhibitor that binds to the heme moiety on the enzyme's active site and prevents substrate binding by sterically blocking access to it.
