N-Ethylhydrazinecarbothioamide is a synthetic quinoline derivative that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity, as well as the ability to inhibit tumor growth. It has been used in the treatment of colorectal carcinoma and other cancers. N-Ethylhydrazinecarbothioamide inhibits the synthesis of nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids by binding to DNA, RNA, and protein targets within mitochondria. This agent also produces an increase in mitochondrial membrane potential and causes cell death by apoptosis. The biological properties of this agent are better understood through its UV absorption spectrum, synchronous fluorescence studies on target tissue, and hydrogen bond interactions with proteins. These studies have revealed that N-ethylhydrazinecarbothioamide binds primarily to dihedral angles of less than 180° or greater than 270°. It has also been found that N-ethylhydrazinecarbothioamide forms polymeric matrixes with DNA bases
